Hey Dogs,
Stumbled across a pic of a Yardkeeper and it caught my eye. For those that have it....How do you like it?

Thanks

Welcome norcalblacktail

I have a tan YK and it's a brute SR77 thick and easy to carry in a pack etc.. Had a covex edge put on mine and dressed it with a rainwalker tan kydex sheath. It's a solid knife most of the dogs that have one like them. If you have large hands, some find that the handle seems a bit short and I can't disagree. Overall +1 on the knife

I've got the Tan and the LE, and gotta say the YardKeeper is one of my favorites as an EDC. Very versatile and capable blade.

In my mind, it's basically a compact Dumpster Mutt, 3/16-in thickness vs 1/4-in, and 1/2-inch less blade and overall length, but its choil is much smaller so that the cutting edge lengths are nearly equal. It's a good knife; see http://www.scrapyardknives.com/knives.htm for comparison pics and stats.

I prefer the thinner blade of the Yardkeeper to the DM CG and have tried swapping mine on the forums, if ya want the toughest knife possible then get a DM but if want a more all round knife I think the Yardkeeper has the edge( no pun intended ).

northern1's pic...

yard keeper, bravo-1, HRLM, dumpster mutt, RD-4, and RMD.

I know you've handled some of these knives so hopefully this can give you a better idea.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that "RD-4" is really an Afghan.

Whoops, yeah that's a Afghan, not a RD-4.

I just got a tan one and love the look. p-easy posted a small knife comparison for me and I gotta go with my Howling Rat over the YK, but I like it.

Even though they say both the YK and Rat are 3/16", I see the YK as thicker...feels a bit more tank like to me.

Thicker is sometimes better. I am blessed with both versions of the Yard Keeper and they are both incredible!
The 0.187 thick Combat Grade is a EDC monster. Also being thin food prep is a breeze with it.

But that Yard Keeper Limited Edition is just sick.
It checks in at a solid 0.267 which is over a 1/4th of an inch thick. Four and a half inches long and a over a quarter inch thick!!!
That is a pry bar,can opener, door breaching son of a _itch!!

I am in love and awestruck at the same time by these two Brothers of Scrap Yard. And yes,
they are solid SR-77 from the ovens in Spring Texas, the yesteryear home of Scrap Yard Knife Company.

Either YK is a great choice. Keep an eye out on E-Bay and in BladeForums exchange and in
time you will find someone who is parting with theirs.

A knife that is over forth of an inch thick and 4 1/2 long blade... The YKLE.
