There was a time when every man carried a knife.

key word is MAN. There are few of us MEN left in this planet.

I've carried a knife every day for over 10 years... even to church! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Man, I wish I worked somewhere where I could EDC a 5 inch blade. I can just imagine some spoiled rich city kid at the college seeing that hanging from my belt and FREAKING OUT.

You could always get a IWB sheath. I wore my Game Warden all the time at college on my belt and no one ever said a word...

IWB sheaths tend to not work well for me - being the lardbutt I am, IWB carry tends to chafe my beer gut and love handles <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Depends on the knife and the location - I'll often keep a largerknife inside my pack to avoid freaking people out, and a folder in my pocket. When hiking, I rarely have anything on my belt, because it interferes with the waist strap of my backpack. I've been known to attach a knife to the left shoulder strap of my pack, handle-down, or sometimes I'll lash my knife to the back of the pack. Not easily accessible, but I'm most likely not pulling my large knife unless I'm getting ready to make a camp.

Basically, I rarely end up carrying a fixed blade unless I'm in the woods, and so my EDC option is a simple folder in the pocket.

Thats cool...I was thinking of adding an Izula to my arsenal for a fixed blade EDC.

I'd definitely like to have an izula. I have a becker necker, and it's a nice fixed blade size for EDC. A good little work and chores knife. Sometimes I'll just throw the becker in my pocket with the kydex sheath on it - it's barely any more bulk than the Spyderco folder I usually carry.

I like my Becker Necker as well, but I keep it in the side pocket of my truck. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

There are times and situations that a folder is the better choice. Given an option , I'll take a fixed blade anyday. I believe in the Blade Trinity...Folder(BM Grptilian) , small FB(BM Snody Resistor) and either my DMDC or Scapper6. On my person, I carry the folder or small FB ,my pack(maxpedition) carry the other. This is my EDC....If going to the field , I'll through on the DF. People say "why so much stuff"?? I live like a scout...be prepared. Hopefully things go good...but ,I'll be the one making it through to the next round...and of course help those who didn't prepare.

I like to add a small folding saw to that mix too, especially when going into the backcountry in places not as well traveled as popular trails.

P-Easy you are incorrect about the rusting of sr77 and sr101.

sr101 WILL RUST much quicker than sr77 will. while sr77 is not as rust resistant as INFI, it is much better regarding rust resistance than sr101.
