I was happy to catch it and be able to take it out to a good place. I let all the non venomous snakes live but I kill the venomous ones. Last year I almost stepped on a diamondback rattler while I was out picking some of our blackberry's. He didn't give me any warning that I was too close....I just managed to see him coiled up and ready to strike.

I play outside too much so I really don't want to be bitten by a venomous snake.

Black racers are really cool snakes. No matter how many of them I catch I'm always surprised by how fast they are. I also get a kick out of them trying to stand their ground and beating their tail on the leaves to sound like a rattlesnake.

I also got a good laugh out of catching the snake. I took him inside to show my Mom and said "I think I found a solution to the mouse you keep seeing in the garage" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />. She didnt find as funny as I thought it was.

Those things are super fast and hard to catch

The Big Black Indigo are my favorite. We have an island on the St.Johns(Hoontoon)...that has more snakes mile per mile....but they don't let you remove them. Got a pigmy Rattler on my last Survey.

Between hunting, camping and hiking, I am in the woods on a regular basis. I used to kill venomous snakes whenever I came across one. As I have aged, I have come to respect that they have their place in the world too. As long as they are deep in the woods and not at my back door. Would not risk catching one to move it to a safer location, but if I can leave them alone I will.

my Science teacher has done a lot of studies with rattlesnakes (mostly in the NJ pine barrens, but in other places too) and says that if they can, they'd rather just sit quietly and think you don't see them.

Picking one up or messing with one is the worst thing to do, most likely they'll die (rattlesnakes, that is) if you pick them up the wrong way since they're not built to hang upside down.
I guess if one was a problem you'd have to just kill it.

anyways, glad you relocated that snake to somewhere where he won't be a nuisance.

While a youngster my brother and I killed a blue racer... still regret it...
