Smashed my finger really good yesterday.. It is still throbbing and causing me to lose sleep.. Should i drill through the nail to relieve pressure or should I just leave it alone? I've been told both ways so I'm gonna ask the yard.. ![[Linked Image from i45.photobucket.com]](http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f87/elclintor/aa.jpg)

I voted leave it alone.
I smashed a toe and crushed everything in it pretty good and when I went to the doctor he basically taped it up in place and said just leave it alone. Eventually, i lost the nail but everything was normal again after it healed. Take some Aspirin or something for the throbbing pain and it should subside soon. Good luck!

I told you the story about mine. Condensed version is to drill it, relieve the pressure, and a way to drain. However, don't take me for a doctor, I did not even stay in a Holiday Inn last night.

If you're not up for the drilling, heat up a sewing needle (using a pair of needle nose pliers to hold it, of course!), and when it's hot enough, use it to carefully burn a hole to relieve the pressure. This will keep it sterile, and also allow the dark blood to seep out.
The trick with things like this under your nails is that it can trap blood that partially clots. Then, when you do something that ges your heart pumping and your blood pressure up, it can sometimes force part of that clot loose and into your blood stream. This isn't so bad when you're young, as you body can usually handle it. As you get older, clots floating in your blood vessels can cause serious problems.
The hot needle thing is something I was taught as a first aid measure while we're in the field for a month or longer. Just remember to flush it with a little peroxie afterwards, and put a band-aid over it to keep foreign bacteria out.

Drill it but take lots of pictures so we can watch

i'd do the hot needle thing, remember to prep the area before and after you burn the hole.
ibuprofun for the pain, 1 every two hours.

Of course we care.....but we are also a bunch of sadistic bastards I'll show you we care. Go to the doctor Clint and get it taken care of right. Still take lots of pictures of what he does. Offer him your SS4 if he needs to do any cutting
