I worked on it for four hours. I still have a flat area in the center to grind down to, but it's almost there. It is a major job for a 1/3 HP 1" x 43" sander. I start at the spine and grind edge up, not grinding the very edge but working the whole blade down to it. Once I get the full convex profile from spine to edge, I'll go to finer grits and then finish the edge. I have already worn out one blue zirconia 80 grit on it. If the weather holds, I should finish it tomorrow. You really have to try a full convex to appreciate its chopping superiority.

The finished product looks really good. It looks better today. I worked on it from 10:00 until 1:00. I still had some flat spots to sand out. It's getting there. After going to 80 micro finishing belt. Final edge polished with 9 micron belt. I took it out back for a little chopping test. It chops clean on hard maple. It slashes limber stuff well now but the edge is a bit thin. I rolled it some on the maple. No problem, I can fix it in 2 minutes. It slices well. I'm done here.
