so I have heard some talk about blades that are wide. busse makes wide blades but nothing very wide.
would you consider the bussemuk wide? what is the purpose of short wide blades?

Short and wide personally makes me think utility, skinner or whittle blade or maybe something like a boat knife.

Skinner, or if it is long and wider(usually even wider) it could be a FBM, BR etc. All wider than a Koster Nessie.

[color:"blue"] what is the purpose of short wide blades?
[/color]

well, although its NOT a BUSSEKIN blade, i have a kabar Warthog that is short and FAT (tall). Its quite nice for slicing and moving sliced food into the pan. One could use it to dig , as a scoop if needed in a OMG wilderness situ....

also short fat (tall) blades can be grasped with the hand (choke up on blade) for finer slicing duties. like this:

Scrappy , The wider the blade the more consistant the cut for skinning. Wider blades also have a blade heavy feel for more mass moving in the cutting direction.

Wide thin blades are also great for food prep.....

With enough belly they give you plenty of finger clearance....

They are also handy when it comes to bushcraft....

i had not considered it made the cut more consistant. that would be a plus.

pitman,
nice trio. i love blades with enough belly for food prep. that litlle blade looks like a small ranger knife.
