I don't if this has already been done or not, but I really would like either scrapyard, busse, or SwampRat to make a Karambit knife. Could you imagine one in SR101 or INFI???? PLEASE KNIFE GODS PLEASE!

SOB, how can I get one of those? resale only? Would like a little less curve though, but what can you do.

So I think Scrapyard should make one (more affordable) with a more traditional curve in SR101. Probably be my dream knife.

Pretty much your only shot at snagging one of those is gonna be the second-hand market. The Bladeforums exchange is probably a good place to look. It's called the War Boar.

What function does that knife design serve?

IT LOOKS MEAN!!!!

No, it's some sort of fighting knife style. They are apparently popular with fighting knife type people. I don't stab or slash many people, so I've never looked into it more deeply than that.

Rvog,

like I mentioned before I believe the busse design is over curved, my favorite design would be a strider karambit (by Steve Tarani)

http://www.striderknives.com/site/index....t&Itemid=26

However I believe striders are highly overpriced.

When it comes to function a karambit is simply a self defense tool, not really meant to be a utility knife. I believe it is one of the most functional designs in a self defense knife, especially in a small concealable knife. Now granted if you are fighting a TRAINED individual with a SOD, or another very large bladed knife, your going to have issues. But for most urban situations the karambit (of course I carry a handgun for my professional also) can destroy someone. The key of course is to be trained in some type of Silat or Kali. It is meant for very tight CQC situations. The design is based on the tigers claw and is thousands of years old and proven in battle.

If you'd like to read a pretty good science fiction book where the primary character fights using karambits, look for a copy of "The Musashi Flex" (it's the latest in the Matador series by Steve Perry). It was released in paperback late 2005, so may be hard to find -- you might need to buy them used online, but that entire series was worth reading. Of course, some in the series were better than others; my favorite was "The Man Who Never Missed".

While "The Man Who Never Missed" was the first published, from a story chronology standpoint, it's the third book -- "The 97th Step" was the story of the man who trained the main character in "The Man Who Never Missed", and though last in the series, "The Musashi Flex" is a prequel to "The 97th Step".

It looks cool, and if you knew you were going into a confrontation where the element of surprise might be good, I could see this being an option, but wouldn't something with more overall utility be more likely to end up on you as an EDC?

CR,

You make a good point about a EDC. I have a large lone wolf folder that is a great every day utilty knife that can also be used as a backup weapon if needed. However I was thinking of carrying both a karambit, and a small edc utilty (around 2.5 blade) for small cutting chores. I think that would be the best of both worlds. I doubt it would be any more uncomfortable or be that much more weight then just my large folder.
