Secondly, I read this on my lunch and laughed out loud when you said that your dad asked if you had a gun, and your reply was yes.... Two.... That made my day!

I knew from the moment that I started to read this, that the schmuck broke into the wrong house!

Sometimes I carry THREE! I had been planning to add some cable zip ties to my bag, but I hadn't done it yet, or I could have cuffed him. I also had my Smith & Wesson police issue cuffs in the house. Too bad they weren't in the truck. I know from the military field manuals I've read how to search a suspect if I had to, but I didn't want to get that close unless needed.

I actually thought to myself, where are the cuffs? That was the only thing that you were missing.

I posted over on the SR site so I'll go ahead and post here as well, I can use the count. I wanna be an SYD someday if I ever grow up!

WAY TA GO ANDY!!! You did everything you could, unfortunately our judicial system today probably would have hung you if you had of shot the scumbag! Not put him away for what he did, after all, he would have been the victim right If you would have had some cuffs you probably would have been safer, but then again, would that have been imprisonment? toward him and if you had a bleeding heart prosecuting attorney you probably would have been in trouble. I hate crooks and liberal (bleeding heart) shysters! Oh by the way, in the police academy they taught us that an average person in good health could have crossed 21feet in 1 second! We once did a test, and the "criminal" crossed the 21 feet and stabbed the "good guy" 3 times before he could get his gun out of the holster.

I bet nobody gives Andy any grief about all that gear he carries in his pockets now.

I am glad that you and your family are ok. I bet you are still having things run through your head but the thing is you were prepared. Good job, and I think you will change a few things before it is all said and done.

Thanks for sharing this with us and making us think about our own preparedness.

Glad you are safe, Andy. I hope that the burglar spend a decade or so in prison reflecting on this and changing their life perspective in the penal system.

+1

I would look at some security for the firearms in the home though...that might have been a lot more nasty had he picked one up...I bet your pleased though with the way things went...you did well and not having to shoot him saved you a lot of hassle and worry...it's not just the "system"...that is bad enough...but sometimes threats follow on...so a good result all round and let's hope he is a three times looser and get's life!
