What? You are willing to pass on the sword AND the first Busse-Kin Swiss Army Knife?
Since I decided to skip the Waki, and based on Mag22s comments about the Ontario BWS1 Katana he bought, I bought some of "Black Wind" swords (from the "evil" auction site). I got two Khybers and two Bengals (one of each with sheath, one of each without). When they were in production, I hadn't heard anything about them and they looked cheap, but Mag likes his and I found a couple pretty good online reviews (
Here's a review of the Katana that includes specs [color:"red"]NOTE: I make no endorsement of marketing links on the site.[/color], the link is simply for information) -- I can't post pics from work, but I'll post a couple that I grabbed off the auctions tonight.
The Khybers are 24" OAL with an 18" blade, and the Bengals are 26" OAL with an 18" long blade. Both blades are made of 3/16" thick 1095 steel and while they certainly aren't Waki quality, I'll have four quite usable swords (with blade shapes I really like) for roughly half the price of a single Waki. If I ever get to feeling "crafty", I might even put some nice handles on them -- I think they'd move from merely functional to rather nice with handle and basic leather sheath upgrades.
