I have never given the RMD much thought until now. I really like the looks of it, and after getting the M9LE and HCLE I think this might be on the to find list. Of course, I get the S5 with mudders so it might not get past that LOL.

skipping out on the RMD is one of my biggest knife regrets.
one of my friend has one so I'll do a comparison when I get the s5.

Of course, I get the S5 with mudders so it might not get past that LOL . . . nor may there be any reason to get past that, sumo. As much as I like my RMD, it's entirely possible that I'll like the S5 better. Time will tell . . . <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> That is the question! Hopefully answered this week!! Yeah!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

The best non-scrapyard handle I've held is the hand-shaped linen micarta on my NMSFNO. Some of the others definitely aren't very comfortable to hold, but that hand shaped smoothness feels oh so good. Maybe not res-c good, but good. Interesting. I don't really like the handle on my NMSFNO a whole lot, myself. I may be weird or something, but my favorite handle is the TAC handle with magnums. It just feels best in my hand. Is yours the hand shaped? I picked up and held some of the machined micarta handled NMSFNO's at BLADE and didn't like them nearly as much. Maybe that's it. I do believe mine's got machined handles. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the swells in the handle just don't feel quite in the right place or something to me.

well that's good and bad. Good that now I don't have to search one out and see if I can amend my rainwalker order to a triple piggyback with the M9LE and HCLE.
Bad because that would have been an awesome set to have.

I think if you are an ardent collector the S5 and RMD are both worth having...but if your budget is tight or expenses elsewhere are heavy...then if you already have a RMD the S5 may be such a similar knife that you might want to consider the issue of duplication...but if you don't own a RMD then the S5 is a MUST....plus on the price it is good value compared to the secondary market price of the RMD...however on a specification distinction comparison...there is not much to seperate them IMO except the different grips and both grips are good choices!
