I hear that D2 is difficult to work. I know from experience that it is not the easiest steel to sharpen, but it holds an edge very well. Looking forward to seeing the finished knife.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Vic, Congrats on your daughter getting into the AF. Work hard on the other one now.
We're running to a bit of a situation up here with the forest fires. Got 6 within 50 miles of my door, and 3 within 20 miles of the door.
Right now, there's no threat to my place, but last night I was helping a friend round up his horses. The fire started at the top of the mountain and was at his doorstep 7 minutes later. He said that it was like watching lava flow down the mountain towards him. Fortunately for him then, the wind shifted and his house was saved. He's still there watering down his place. Keeping it damp and putting out the embers. I'd thought earlier that he'd lost his house, but didn't happen thankfully. This morning, my car had ash all over it (twenty miles away), and the big concern tonight is that if the wind picks up there could be embers all over the place. Last night, the fire was about 150 sq acres, and this morning it was 1000 sq acres. The fire at his place is heading towards where I am, but the firefighters are hitting it hard as there's a propane storage facility (about a million liters of propane) and a huge liquor distribution facility between me and the fire.
Everyone is hoping that the winds don't pick up, and that the fireguards hold overnight this time.
Cross your fingers boys. Good vibes are needed for a lot of people up here.

Dave Good luck, Dave. Prayers are sent from Georgia. Forest fires are scary.

Thanks Vic. We aren't in too much danger here right now, but with the wind and flying embers it's hard for the firefighters to control things. Hopefully the wind won't be too strong tonight and they can get a handle on some of the fires.
I think that there is one that's about 25% contained, but most of the others are around 5% contained so far. Predicted temps are going to be in the low 90's this coming week, but the humidity level has dropped drastically all across the region. That means that everything is getting dryer, and with all the pine beetle kill in our area, it's tense everywhere. The government here had plenty of warning (fires in 2003) and lots of time to get rid of the pine beetle kill, but they sat on their fat arses and did just about nothing. The firefighting bill so far is above a 1/2 billion $$. They got out of 2003 with minimal damage and then acted like retards instead of clearing the forest....now we are all paying the cost for their incompetence.
Sorry for the political rant, but the devastation around us was preventable if there had been the political will to buckle down and do it.
To the west of us, two towns have been evacuated and to the east of us, about 2000 people have been evacuated so far. I sure hope that this doesn't turn into situations like in California or Australia.

Guess it boils down to money. They just voted themselves a 43% raise last year. Maybe not enough money left over. Shouldn't be getting into politics on here though.
On another note, I've been putting a convex edge on my S5. I've been doing it by hand and it's been an interesting experience. Almost Zen-like...

My cousin was 1 of 3 homes that burnt down due to the Kelowna fires last month.
