There's a widespread belief in the photographer community that "It's all been done"/ "There's nothing new under the sun"/ "Everything that can be photographed has been photographed", etc.

I told the people who say that, including some famous and highly regarded people who say that, that this belief is a total crock. We've barely scratched the surface of the possibilities.

Basically, they have said that if I don't believe that it hasn't all been done, than I'm being naive, and I haven't seen enough. And then they've also added that I'm working under some ego-driven need to be the unique Artiste, but that it just isn't so, and can't be so.

I've basically taken the position that they're stark raving mad if they think we've exhausted all the original photographic possibilities, and they think so because they just aren't looking very hard.

evo, stand your ground. many guitarists say the same thing. "everything the instrument can do has been done." i say they're just not creative and don't wanna take the blame for lack of originality.

I told them that I would write an article which exhaustively refutes the belief that it's all been done, and I've started to do so. If you're interested, you can read part 1, here:

http://naturography.blogspot.com/2009/10/infinite-possibilities-part-1.html

I should have part 2 finished within a day or two. It will probably be about 5 or 6 parts, in total.

It's just sad to see people walk around so jaded, with blinders on, and try to ruin it for everyone else.

i have to say, i think photography is probably the hardest media to gain notoriety as a great artist. anyone who's against you on this one probably isn't an artist.
