I have a open spine sheath from BB for my DDF.
It is nice. WELL made. However, if I had to do it again, I think I would have just got a standard sheath for it.

If I was buying from David for a big knife, no question I'd go open spine. The one on the M9LE I just sold is freakin' AWESOME. Brilliant sheath.

I just prefer to be able to pop it out with my thumb, and be able to slam it back in.
With the open spine, you unsnap the strap, tip the knife forward and pull up at an angle. You dont have to draw it up so high, but you have to deal with the strap.
When you are putting it back, you have to be careful as to not cut the strap and the snap can be kind of finicky getting it fastened.

I just prefer to pop off with the thumb and pull up, and then just slam it back into the sheath.
I am 6'4" with really long arms though, so I dont really notice the extra reach.

I will probably make my own kydex for the bushwacker, and I don't have the skill to make a good quality open spine, so I'll be going with a plain taco style most likely.
