Since Summer Finding is also about fertility, this might be a good time to get together with your special someone for a romantic feast. But if you don't have a special someone, the return of the growing earth is more than enough to celebrate.

I think that sums it up! What do you think Horn Dog? I celebrated Spring fertility rites yesterday. While da yoots were out of the house, my unofficial girlfriend came by and... .

I, too am a student of religion. I used to be able to read classical Hebrew, and some Aramaic. I am not as learned as you obviously are, but I enjoy researching things. Last year I read all the so-called gnostic gospels. They give us a glimpse of early Christianity. Of course, they are soundly condemned by some orthodox Christians. I do not read Coptic, so I relied mostly on the translations by Jean-Yves LeLoup, an Orthodox priest himself. His commentary was enlightening. The discoveries and translations of the Nag Hammadi texts have been an eye opening experience for me.

We have almost no evidence about what the Norse actually did for Summer Finding as a religious festival. However, one can presume that the return of growing things, planting, fertility, Freya (Goddess of love, sex, and women's magick), and perhaps Sunna the sun Goddess may have been involved. Though planting may have been delayed (if done at all) in the far northern provinces of Scandinavia. Landwights (or spirits of the land) may have also been honored at this time. March 21st is pretty much one month earlier than the earliest planting in the southernmost and most fertile areas of Norway. And that's with modern technology, chemical fertilization, and global warming. I'd think they'd be more interested in celebrating spring equinox for its own sake, than fertility and planting.

Notice how many people would ignore his works especially when it comes to "non existant gospels", things that should never have existed. Brilliant stuff!

That is the problem today.... There is no tradition except for the few who are willing.

It is the age old story. A holy man comes to teach people how to live and reach their divine potential within, and a bunch of "priests" convert it into a power and money making scheme.

That's exactly it. Everyone has lost sight of how to live. Too busy telling everyone else how to do so.
Hail Ostara! (just to keep with the thread).
