Just got my knife, first appearance is good and i'm pleased overall. The sheath isn't what i was hoping for, maybe for a free one might be ok, but i'll just pass next time i guess. The coating is top notch and the handle fit is excellent. Only real problem i wasn't expecting was it's very dull. Not even close to being able to cut paper clean in the middle, and 3/4 of the edge i can rub my finger on with no worries of getting cut. For the price i'm not complaining, but just an fyi for scrap yard that they might want to put a little more QC on the sharpening process. I have no desire to send it back, i'll just do it myself, just wish i had an edgepro or something to speed it up.
I'm just giving some input to help things out as i realize this company is new and they will need feedback from their customers. Overall i think things are ok for just getting up and running. Smooth start so far IMO. Had one glitch during my order but patti is taking care of it, email responce time is very good.

I understand the arguement about having a blade sharp straight from the factory, but not so much the expressing it as much as I see it....what do these folks do when there knife gets dull? You sharpen it! So when it comes not quit as sharp as you like....just do it yourself......tyuio, I'm not calling on you , but there just seems to be a bit of it!

I agree, when a knife gets dull it's best to sharpen it so it works like it was new......well works like it's supposed to i mean. If input isn't wanted here thats no prob, just need to learn the rules of this new forum.

No, nothing like that at all, in put is needed and every one of your comments is appreciated, I didn't mean to sound like an [censored], I was just making a general statement about folks talking about dull blades, I just wonder if they know HOW to sharpen it when the time comes to.

You both have good points. My scrapper is not as sharp as I would have liked, but I am sure that a couple of seconds with my steel will have it shaving hair. This does not bother me. All of my swamp rats and busse knives have been very sharp from the get-go, up to now, regardless of what steel they are made of. I bought a buck general at cabela's this weekend. I spent around 50 bucks for it, and it came so sharp out of the box it is virtually a razor. I do understand how tyuio would expect our puppies to be equally as honed when new.

I'm just giving some input to help things out as i realize this company is new and they will need feedback from their customers. Right on! The only way to improve the product is to give an honest feedback. While I don't care if my scrapper comes razor sharp or not, the next guy will expect it to. Many folks are used to razor sharpness straight out of the box and in many cases are not fimiliar with sharpening technique.

I am inclined to agree with greens. If knives costing 1/2 that of Yard knives, let alone Rats and Hogs, can come shaving sharp from the factory, why can't the Dogs? I really like my Scrapper, but would have liked the edge a little sharper. Yes, I sharpened it, but feel like I should not have had to do so. Just my honest thoughts!

Sounds like I best get some fine 'wet and dry' paper and an old mouse mat in for when my S6 arrives! Personally apart from Gerber multitools I can't remember ever getting a knife that impressed me with the edge on it from the factory. Some have been truly bl**dy awful (Ontario and Camillus)!

Just my honest thoughts! yep, i agree -- i had to spend hours on both of mine, just because i don't have the convenience of a slack-belt grinder like they do at the shop -- but if i can put a razor edge on a knife, so can anyone, even if they are a hack. i just bought a $17 cold steel that shaved out of the box... i mean, if THEY know how to sharpen, it can't be that hard, right? I agree, we shouldn't have to spend hours on brand new $90 or $140 blades. One of mine LEs (i bought two) even had little swirly-marks on it either from an orbital sander or from being hand-worked in a circular fashion... and it was duller than the other one! I could understand a very obtuse edge if they were big choppers, but heavy edge geometry doesn't have to mean "dull" -- my HOGFSH factory edge popped hairs and left great clean bald spots on my arm -- razor sharp but over 5/16" thick with an edge to match. like you say, just my honest thoughts. In my earlier posts i tried to defend the quality of the edge, i was caught up in the excitement of a new company... but lately i'm feeling much more caring, and realize it wasn't right of me to sugar-coat my feedback if i really hope to see the quality of the products improve -- if people continue to be disappionted, they won't keep buying knives. it's that simple.
We need a 5/16" (or thicker) SR-77 BOWIE!!! (Written back in early '07 -- Regulator Premonition?)

That 17 dollar cold steal will be fun to chop with a Bowie... Dogg, are you disappointed to the point where you would consider not buying another Scrapper because of the edge? And where is the Avatar......

sr77dogg - I hope that your less-than-perfect edge won't dissuade you from future Yard knives. Mine was a little duller than expected, perhaps due to a rushed production date. However, I am really looking forward to the next release - hopefully the BOWIE! At the same time, I hope that Dan and Patti have taken notice of all the comments regarding their knife edges and take measures to improve them. As far as sugar-coating feedback - well, I think that what we may consider constructive criticism sometimes is viewed as complaining, and generates negative feelings from some folks. I think that sometimes I am a little too honest and direct for some folks' liking, but I try to tell it like I see it. I love my Scrapper and have great hopes for future products, and I will continue to tell it like I see it.
