Vic - nice sander. You could sharpen my Ford Explorer with that.

Great tips everyone - thanks!

My wife got me one for my first birthday we were married, and yes I like the sharpmaker, I find it very fool proof and versitile. but you got to keep the rods/stones clean.

Wow, that has to be, hands-down, the best quote of the day <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Anybody use the Lansky Sharpeners? I have always wanted one and may pick on up.

Yep, it's what I use. My SS4 is now so sharp I've ordered kydex from LF! The only downsides are..

1 You destroy the convex edge (no practical problem for me so far)
2 It squashes patches of the black coat flat (cosmetic damage only, and these knives are users!!)

I'd recommend them, don't get the deluxe though waste of money. Get the one with the three basic stones and the triangular one for serrations.

I'm going to pick up a leather strop in a few days for the CGFBM. I read up on it a little - should be easy to keep her razor sharp w/ one of them!
