As to the SKS vs Saiga--there is advantages of both. Me personally, I like the SKS better but if I were going with a Saiga I would get one that has been converted to the AK platform from Arsenal.

The SKS tend to be more accurate since it uses a milled receiver and a tilting block bolt system where as the Kalshinikov design uses a rotary bolt system and the stamped receivers tend to flex a little. The SKS sight radius is longer too which helps in sighting.

The Saiga can be made to use a AK mag, but you have to rivet a bullet guide in or get one of the kits out there. Otherwise the Saiga is a detachable 10 shot mag where the SKS is a fixed 10 shot mag.

We are supposed to be going to a Christmas Eve get together at 4:00, was originally 6 bt with the weather changing today we are not sure if it is happening at all. We have had rain yesterday evening and early morning, slet, and now snow. The weather guy said he was not sure when the last time OKC, OK was under a blizzard warning. I know I like it, don't see it very often. Who knows, I might get the camera out and take some pics for posterity.

When looking at SKS rifles, the majority used a screwed in brl, but some of the later Chinese rifles have pined brls. I always like the look of the screw in brls better.
