Mag, did you see my post on the AK, Saiga, and SKS. Look for it, being in NJ I am not sure what your state laws are about high cap mags, detachable mags, and or pistol grips?

15round cap, i'm pretty sure pistol grips are okay. folding stock's are no go.

i'm not really die hard about the pistol grips anyway so no biggie to me. the 15 round bothers me some, but i could live with it.

tell me about maintenance on the sks.

Can you get a 30 rd mag and block it to 15 rd? That way if you ever move you can unblock them?
Folding stocks, over rated unless they are a SLR series that lock up as tight as a fixed stock. You could always get the proper rear trunion and stock if you move to a place that allows it.

What about flash hiders and bayonet lug?

SKS is very easy. Check to make sure the ma is empty and the chamber is empty. Remove dust cover and op spring. Retract bolt carrier and bolt, lift out. Turn hg retainer to open position and lift out upper hg. Push piston out of the upper hg. Ready to clean. Every once in a while pop the trigger group out and remove brl action out of stock. Remember, these weapons were designed for people who did not have a lot of education, or even mechanical inclination. Most classes on learnign were taught with picture posters.
