personally, if I had a SOD and was gonna remove the finish, that's ALL I would do. Just leave whatever is under the finish to wear off with use. After all, it would be a beater! And the finsh would do nothing to detract it from it's function of cutting stuff.

convex is great for a sword and a regular knife too, really sharp edge I like convex so much because it can get scary sharp but still have a lot of meat behind the edge for extra strength.

I've chopped a lot with the SOD and the section from where the flat grind transitions to the saber grind acts like a big stop, it prevents the knife from traveling further through the wood.

I've convexed the edge of every knife I have (plus the ones I've made). Modding knives is simple in terms of knife making since plunge lines and bevels are already established, but making it look good is a whole other thing. I've seen mod work that looks great in pictures, but in person with the trained eyes, you can really see a lot of small imperfections. That's what sets one person from another person. I'm trying to set myself apart by working on the details. Like anyone trying to be successful, you have to start from the bottom.
