Heard about the Buffalo rounds, I would have to order them on-line, however the Hornady loads are sold locally. I love my timber in 450 Marlin, just wish I hadn't used it before I realised they are collectable. However I will keep using now. I can't afford a new rifle so I'll stick to the ones I have. I did make a deal on a 2010 Arctic Cat 700 mudpro which I have to pick up the 31st so my disposable cash is gone ($250 monthly payments)

Do any of you guys hunt with an M1 at all? Taken pigs, yotes, wild dogs, a skunk, and armadillo. No deer yet. Cool, my favorite hunting round for medium sized game is 308, I've shot deer and moose with my 308 without complaints. For the record I am aware that the 7.62 NATO and 308 winchester are not the same round.

Back. Yeah, there is a difference in the 51mm and the .308. I have seen 51mm lock the bolt up on a high dollar rifle before to the point a rubber nallet had to be used to open it up.

I like the 168 gr Hornady A Max. I love Hornady bullets. Next would be the Sierra Game King in the 150 gr but have not used them since the Hornady became my load. I want to try some of the 110 gr out to see what they will do.
Oh yeah, the 168 gr will totally make a prairie dog disappear.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> I don't understand. 7.62 and .308 not the same? Does the NATO designation mean something?

Nato rd chamber pressure is less than SAMMI. Also, Nato or military brass is generally thicker at the base meaning less powder can be loaded into it. If you use a load that is designed for the .308 Winchester then it might be unsafe if 51mm brass is used due to chamber pressures.
Now the .223 Remington and 5.56mm has the same thing except it is the other way around, 5.56mm is hotter. Normally you don't see a problem unless it is in a tight chambered rifle.

I use mostly 180 grain in both of my 308's, my old winchester model 88 gets it's best groupings with 180 silvertips followed very closely by 180 Federal classics (funny this is the cheapest ammo in my neck of the woods) it hates any 150 grain I've tried. Since I use it on moose and deer I've stayed with what works. When I bought my rem 600 mohawk 3 years ago it shoot both of these 180 grains well so I did not do any further testing with it

Thanks sumo. But I have used imported surplus .308 in my 700 and didn't have any problems. Is the NATO sepcific for what you have listed and regular 7.62 surplus ok. OR is there surplus imported .308 military boxed 20 rnds to a box?
