Remember when I told you guys a while back about wanting to learn the guitar? My brothers room mate is moving to Iowa where he will start practicing in June (doctor). He has been picking about guns since he will not be in Chicago anymore so Mike, my brother, and I will be taking a road trip up there to see him and help him with a purchase or two. Anyway, his room mate gave me a starter guitar......a black Fender that has played a lot of gigs. Has that smell of smoke, been there, and I am stocked. My brother gave me a small practice amp, a bag, a cord, and a tuner plus the promise to teach me. I don't think he knows what he is in for LOL. I am pretty good at learning but I am intimidated for the first time in a long time about something--guess practice, practice, practice.

Actually, tone has more than one meaning in photography.
Yes, "value" is pretty close - though sometimes it is talking about absolute value, and other times about relative value.

You will get out of it what you put into it.

Man, I will have to check the Chat out tomorrow night when I get home. I have missed getting to BS with you guys. Will be heading back so I better get some sleep. Ever notice how sitting in a car can make you more tired than working, and your joints swell due to in-activeness-----------is that a sign of getting older LOL.

I have to say, I never "practice", either. It seems kind fo odd to me that people "practice" photography – like, they'll set up an egg on a plate, and then set up all their flashes and tripod and so on, and learn their techniques before they go out into the field and shoot a "real" photo situation that they actually want to shoot. Why not circumvent taking any pictures of things you're not interested in, and just start trying the techniques you want to learn with "real" subject matter you want to shoot? That's what I do. Trial by fire with compelling situations – never dry practice runs.
