The ones I have don't so well when its well below freezing. I use charcoal or wood in the sidebox smoker. And just charcoal in a cylinder smoker.

If I make a bunch of atomic buffalo turd everyone will invade my house. It must be done in secret. Thats one of the few things i have seen disappear right of the smoker and poeple have to be getting serious burns to eat them at that temperature.
