only three years old and dead? their extended warranty is three years.

the beauty of the mac isn't the design, the interface, or the chic image. it's dependability. at least to me.

This one has been somewhat less dependable than my previous ones, but it has been reasonably dependable. I can't really lay blame on Apple for non-dependability, in regard to the two big failures.

1) The hard drive. 3.5 years is about average for a laptop hard drive these days, and further, as a photographer I've used that drive HARD.

2) The logic board. They seem to go out pretty randomly, without much rhyme nor reason. They do apparently go out faster when run hot, and processing huge picture files all day every day keeps it running pretty hot.

But for me, the primary attraction of Macs is less time spent futzing with them is necessary. Time spent futzing with them could be spent more profitably making money for my business, or more enjoyably doing just about anything else.

i totally agree. i spent more time searching for drives and updates on with windows than i ver have with my macs. oh and i did some tech support for six years and rarely had a complaints with apple setups.

I seem to recall you spilled liquid on one or two of them.

Yeah, my brother has a business dealing with people's computer issues, called CompuNerds. He used to come home and say "Thank GOD for Microsoft! I would lose 85% of my business, if everybody used Macs."
