Alright gents, while I am eagerly awaiting the delivery of my single S5 (hopefully tomorrow), I was wondering about how you guys feel about the mudder grips.

I am hoping for some feedback from those dogs who are new to mudders and how they compare to Dan's standard Res-C grips or SRKW/Busse micarta slabs.

In my limited experience, I can't imagine getting any better feel than the Res-C on my S6. So, do you think the mudders are an all-around improvement, or just handy for fine work, or what?

Can you tell the anticipation is building? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I will let the Dogs speak for themself. Each grip is different in feel and everyone has different preferences...I personaly love the little devil because of the way it fits my big mitt

I have both RC and I really like both of them. It is hard to pic a favorite between the Res-C and the mudders. I haven't done any serious chopping though so maybe one of the other guys can speak to chopping comfort. I will say that the mudders conform to my hand better and would be easier for me to do more intricate work with. They are both excellent grips though. I'm glad to have both.

I think I would recommend std res-c on larger knives and mudders on smaller knives...

Hope that helps a little...I'm sure others will have more info. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

They both have their uses.

For the larger knives, the Res C fills the hand nicely for chopping. I love the fact that you don't feel as much vibration in the handle as you do with knives from other companies. My DFCG and S6 are well used for a little of everything, from chopping tree limbs up, to clearing hunting trails. I love them... period.

For jobs that require more finesse, the Mudder does the job. I personally love the mudder grips because they don't slip in your hand when it gets covered in blood and gore when filleting fish, or gutting a deer or any other animal. This is as true in the kitchen, where your hands can become very wet while chopping and preparing meals next to running water. My MPLE, BDLE, and especially my Muk, have become my prime blades for these jobs because of this.

I agree with Tyger75 and Knotslip about smaller knives with the mudder grip and the larger choppers with the Res-C grips.

By the way all handles are made of Res-C. The mudders were made at a higher durometer reading or harder setting... but they are all the same material

This will be my first mudder, so I'm anxious to see how it stacks up against my current go-to... the DMDC.

These also are my first Res-C handles. First thot was I wish it was thicker. Funny thing is, like grips on a gun, sometimes a smaller hand likes a thicker grip. You'd think it was the opposite, but in my case it isn't.

I'm a fan of the mudders. The balance is about the same, but the blade on the S5 is thinner.

I have a Mud Puppy with Mudder grips and they're okay, but I like the grips on my YKCG and DMDC better.
