This is kind of off topic too, but I've got Justin sending me some blue spacers for my Black on Black RD7. I have to glue them up, profle, and drill them myself. Anyone done that before?

i don't care about mick's history, just the knives. i was, however, reading the strider knives forum archives on bladeforums and he didn't represent himself very well.

Look at this: "But now I'm no longer willing to remain silent and hold my peace after reading Dexter Ewing's article entitled "Rock Star Knife Makers" in the February 2007 issue of Blade Magazine. You see, what finally "tripped my switch" was when Dexter equated Mick Strider to a rock star (a rock star is generally acknowledged to be a celebrity) with nary a mention of the fact that Mick Strider has lied outrageously for years. He has lied about his experiences in combat (none), Special Operations (none) and Black Ops (none), not to mention the fact that he served 5 years in prison on felony convictions for ARMED CARJACKING, USE AND CARRYING OF A FIREARM DURING THE COMMISION OF A VIOLENT CRIME, AND INTERSTATE TRANSPORTATION OF A STOLEN VEHICLE. SHAME ON YOU, DEXTER. For years and years MICK STRIDER has worn the "BEEN THERE, DONE THAT" T-SHIRT while reaping all the financial and publicity benefits that go with it. And now, it turns out, HE STOLE THE SHIRT, AND HAS A VIOLENT CRIMINAL PAST TO BOOT!" Lynn Thompson of Cold Steel

I read on BF a post that Mick made about a customer who wasn't satisfied w/ some kind of legitimate issue with a knife - he called the customer some pretty foul words that Trashcan would not let me post here.

interesting. lynn's no role model himself. exaggerating is lying. he also has a girly name. now if it came from a more credible source, like spark from bf, i'd bet more people would care. between them it just seems like mud slinging.

Not that I ever did anything special. At least Lynn admits that he has no military experience.

wow. spark's got a lot to say. i'm not readin all of that yet i wonder if i want my 889 anymore. i admit, it's a freakin cool knife. very substantial and solid. it is, however, poorly designed. only good for shallow cuts, but that's how hollow grinds go. think i'll try and trade it for a d'allara drop point. i want a vg-10 knife.

wow. spark's got a lot to say. i'm not readin all of that yet i wonder if i want my 889 anymore. i admit, it's a freakin cool knife. very substantial and solid. it is, however, poorly designed. only good for shallow cuts, but that's how hollow grinds go. think i'll try and trade it for a d'allara drop point. i want a vg-10 knife. I don't really like hollow grinds anymore for anything other than smaller folders. Do you think that your Strider is as solid (edit: "tough") as the Scrapper 6 or DF?

Hey Vic - I just snagged a 24" diameter x 18" tall chunk of white pine trunk to use as a chopping block behind my house. I've noticed that you have a trusty stump that you use all the time - and when I saw some guys sectioning out a big pine out of some rich guy's yard I asked if I could steal a chunk!!

I don't know jack about strider knives. They may be fine. I know Thompson does a lot of over the top hype, but I have used a lot of his knives and have been pleased with most of them.

I have handled striders their ok like I said I think there way overpriced. I have and still do own CS products and I have also been pleased with most of them. but reciently I think some of their stuff has become cheap.

Yeah, I had a laredo Bowie which is a nice knife But..... the handle is to slick and the tang stops about half way in the handle. A wire is used to secure the tang to the pommel nut. I hate short cuts like that.
I really like the looks of the Natchez Bowie but it shares the handle design of the laredo.
Not worth the price

I'm glad you told me about the Laredo, Bors. That is cheap work for such a pricey blade. Being a Bowie fan, I was looking to get one.

i may get flamed for this but a decent knife is not complicated or difficult to make. for $300-$500 a knife should be...well a busse. a .25" thick saber ground tanto of s30v isn't gonna cut jack squat better than a .08" thick scandi ground clip point in 12c27. paracord wrapped handles do not feel or function better than molded plastic. did i just say a $10 mora is a better knife than a strider costing 40x? i'm gonna paracord wrap a mora and charge $300. it'll be huge.

oh, so you'll buy one? the stainless airforce rescue model is on the left, bright orange for security, medic, and evac units. i designed it based on my time in the desert sands of africa. my first night there i saw combat.
that's true. it's also miseleading. i was in egypt visiting family and the night we got off the plane there was a massive fist fight in the street. fifteen, maybe twenty guys. probably fighting over muhammad's favor in paradise.

If you don't mind doing a little finishing, the Windlass Bowies are quite nice for the price. The steel is pretty good. They are made in India, though.

so far my favorite blade format is the swiss army. put a super steel or tool steel in a pioneer and i would flip out. gimme one in d2 or 1095. 13c26 if it must be stainless. vg-10 sounds good too. oh how sweet it would be.

But I actually liked it. It's not designed for prying and probably no where as tough as a DF it's Ok for the price.

I've heard Lite beer causes anger issues in some people. I'm one of them! I think it's because you have to drink so Da@@ much And that is a true statement. Tastes like watered down cr@ppy beer to me. I really prefer a beer that when you hold up the bottle, you can't see through it.

gonna have to go with the salt shaker i guess. those things are paper now, most of the time. if i'm lucky there'll be a glass ketchup bottle around, then you get the instant gratification of red splatter too.
i'm misrepresenting myself, i don't even step on bugs.

Off topic - way off topic!
Do any of you guys have friends that are knife nuts?
I never have.
Some of you guys saw that picture of the damascus knife that I got from that old knifemaker here in Missoula MT - anyways, myself and another X-Army guy from the Blade Forums met up to go help this guy get set up to sell knives on the 'net. It was pretty cool meeting another "knife nut" (especially one who is prior service) from my area - and it wouldn't have ever happened if it wasn't for knife forums such as this. I've found that knife and gun people are generally great people, and wish I was able to sit down and have a beer w/ all of the Dogs in the Yard. Not trying to be all sentimental, but its really great to have a congregation of such interesting and good people like we do in the Yard.
My sentimental rant is complete.

man usa network really knows how to keep me in that chair. third svu episode in a row. I watch the Shield pretty religiously. I'm a little worried about Season 6 starting in a few days and Season 5 just being released because that - I missed the 2nd half of season 5 when I was in Korea and Russia last year... I don't know if I want to start watching after having missed so much...

See - no one has any knife nut friends. Where else can you go to talk knives with good people other than the yard!? Alas, it is the same for me. People think that since I have an obvious obsession with weapons, especially edged ones, that I must be some wierd psycho. I just decided one day, to hell with them all, and bought a horned helmet. Might as well do it right, I figured. It felt really good when I put it on. The other members of my Asatru kindred are the only others here that I know that share my love of the blade. They buy cheap 420J2 crap and show it to me. I'm trying to upgrade them.

Your friends have a higher grade steel than my friends. Of course, we have the Feds here at the FLETC. They are all into Benchmades and Spyderco. I try to avoid them at the range ever since one of them gave me a ration of his self-righteous "Why would a civilian need an assault rifle" rant. That was during the tense times of Ruby Ridge and such. I might be a civilian, but I hate being called one!

Some of them are ok. The instructors are usually gun nuts. That is why they joined our gun club. Now they have taken it over. They require all new members to either be in law enforcement, active duty military, or have a concealed carry permit. I have been a member since 1983, but I keep a low profile.

I've got one friend that is into knives. He's got way nicer folders than I'd ever buy, but when I showed him the stuff from the yard he said he just didn't get it. Oh well, the rest of you mutts are fun to hang with.
Hey HD, what is the rationale behind requiring a CC permit? I don't have any firearms, but I don't see the connection CC has with LEO or Active duty...

Of course, not all members are pistol shooters. Its just a Fed takeover. The ranges our tax dollars bought them are not enough. They need our range, too. Its a 600 meter range.

Ah, thanks. 600M is...close to a quarter mile? That's huge! Yes, we host State high power silhouette matches. Its pretty big for being on the East coast. I have not been there all year. I need to re-zero my rifles and get in a little pistol practice. I still have not even fired one of my revolvers.

Thats why I hang around here! my friend, 440a and aus4 are good enough. we like going overboard. nothing wrong with that. 140 horses are good enough, but i want 400. some people do need more for harder cutting or towing, but aus4 and 440a are usually sufficient. I might be a civilian, but I hate being called one! need based ownership.....screw that! this is america, no one needs a speed boat or mink coat, gonna outlaw those? no one needs governmental regulation either if we're allowed to defend ourselves. by the people and for the people only works when the people care and if they're taught not to care then the shepherd will lead his sheep to care for what he wants. they'll go with it because they're too shallow, cowardly, rich, and clueless. they are strong in one sense: numbers.

got myself thinkin with my own comment on numbers. the majority. maybe there really is no problem at all and this is how it's supposed to work. the manipulation of which i spoke in which people are not truly choosing their representatives, only settling for them, isn't objected to by the majority. it's not illegal to be in love with a sadist.

Great educational posters, Andy. I bet the government schools would never allow such freedom-inspiring messages on campus.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I have like a hundred of those pics. They all came from one site. Unfortunately, I didn’t save the link with them. It might be printed on one or two of the pics though. I can check later if anyone wants the link to see the rest.
