"Two weeks?" Hardly. It took me two days to get my Scrapper. I ordered it on Tuesday, and received it Thursday.

I like it. Sadly, I ordered this to inexpensively replace a bunch of spiffy Busse knives and Swamp Rat knives I need to sell to pay off my medical bills. Once I got this baby out of the box, I was relieved to see that I can still have a good knife at such an affordable price.

The Resiprene C wasn't perfectly removed around the lanyard ring, but it only took a minute with an Olfa box cutter to fix that. The edge is not as sharp as I've gotten on my other Busses and Swampies (and the edge profile is a bit unnecesarily fat for my tastes), but it isn't as dull as some posts here have lead me to expect. The sheath is both good and bad: the cordura part is improved compared to previous Busse/Swamp Rat sheaths, but the insert is too flimsy... in fact, mine came pre-cracked.

Growing pains for the new company...

Anyway, the knife is great. It achieves a magical balance of being a small knife (easy to carry, nimble in use for precision cutting), and a big knife (solid chopper, indestructible) in one. I look forward to using it.

Mike

Mike - I'm glad to hear that you're happy with your Scrapper, and such fast shipping. The Scrapper is one tough piece of steel, and I still love the Res-C handles.
We're going to need some of your excellent pictures of outdoor exploits with your knife! Tom

I don't have any pictures of it, yet. In fact, I don't have my knife nor my camera with me, right now. I'm over at a dear friend's house. She's pregnant, and has a bad cold, and her 2 year old daughter also has a bad cold, so I'm over here taking care of them. (They're napping, right now.)

Perhaps I'll get some pics of it at the vulture festival, next weekend.

I'll probably put a picture of it in the survival article I'm working on, on my website.

Mike

I don't recommend trying to eat one. But it is the only place and time in the world where you're likely to see ~3,000 wild vultures densely packed together.

Oddly, the vulture festival isn't a popular event.

I think that, within the context of taking care of I. and K., catching this cold is essentially unavoidable. That's a small price to pay, to take care of loved ones in need.

Hopefully, my cold will be gone by the time I go to the vulture festival. If it's not... well, a cold doesn't seem like such a big deal, after my recent bout of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. For an event as major as the vulture festival, I'll put up with feeling lousy in order to get the job done.

Thanks for the concern.

Cheers,

Mike

P.S. By the way, on the sbject of being careful: I've got some good intel for photo opportunities with some sidewinders and diamondbacks on this trip, too.

Yup, that was me, and I didn't even show the worst of the pictures. I'm mostly better. I'm still covered in pale spots, indicative of some level of cellular damage throughout my body which is at least semi-permanent. The doctors are now guessing that it will be months-to-years for the rest of the rash to fade, if ever. I'm still a bit low-energy, too.

And I'm burdened for now with big medical bills to pay off (in fact, the medical stuff isn't entirely over, yet)... which is why I'm gonna be selling off a bunch of knives.

Thanks for the concern.

Heck yes, I'm going to sell the pictures of my rash to science books! I'm going to corner the market for medical stock photos of RMSF.

Mike

P.S. We'll probably meet at Blade Show, or some such, some time. If you're interested, ask me to show you my spots.

I don't know much about RMSF, other than it is BAD news! Be really careful when you go to the vulture fest, as they carry all kinds of parasites, etc. With your system already down, you sure don't need to pick up something from the birds! Take care!

Thanks, PK.

RMSF made me very paranoid about pathogens. From now on, in such situations, I'll be wearing mosquito netting+DEET+Permethrin. I'll take care.

Good to hear Mike. While you're there, ask around for the best ways to cook snake - roasted over a fire, cut up and boiled, or whatever ? I know that they supposedly taste like chicken, but I am curious as to how the "locals" cook theirs. Thanks! Tom
