Hey guys,

I was wondering what you guys use to coat your knives with when the stock coating wears off?

I am not only interested in stripping old coating, and applying fresh stuff my production knives but also applying coating to the custom knifes I plan on making (wish me luck I am taking the plunge!). I am looking for the toughest coating avaible that can applied/baked etc...by a amateur at home.

Thanks fellas, I'm sure i'll have more questions to follow....might try my luck with some shock tool steel... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

Duracoat makes a sweet product. Incredibly durable for something that you just spray on. I've used it to customize a buddy's MP-7 and Colt HBAR in coyote brown and they have held up just fine for as much as he abuses his stuff.

I have not used it yet on a knife but the DuraCoat, KG Industries, and Norrels Moly Coat all have been used in the past for guns. I am not sure about using them on a knife with Res-C since the coating needs to b cured in an oven to harden it up, don't want to melt the handle on a blade!

Yeah that is sweet. I'm going to get a duracoat setup. If I get good I can charge my buddies to coat thier guns, and use the cash to buy more dogs. Muhahahah.

Hey Sumo, Duracoat makes applications that don't need to be baked. Perfect for the Res-C.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

Dura-Bake requires oven heat treatment but Dura-cote does not.

Really, I need to look at that closer. I knew you could let it air dry and I have heard less than steller reports on how it holds up that way. Of course that is on firearms, so who knows.

Bead Blast the blade first...then Duracoat...let dry for a hour , then heat gun a few strokes. As durable as it gets without hardcrome.
