Well heck, if pics can be posted of the new knife, I can help you out because I got a black and tan one. Hopefully later today I can get a picture or two up.

good to have you back, Bruce!
Wow. only 14 ounces for the Reg? that's pretty awesome.

You know, the more I see the regulator, the more I think about wanting one. I really, really like the blade shape (nice point!) but that thickness is making me question it. Price seems fair, new handles look good (although I think I would prefer the res-c "guard" to only be on one side), just that 1/3" thick is the only thing saving my bank account. Oh well, maybe when the release comes it will be a more "reasonable" thickness. Part of me sure hopes so and part of me really can't handle the temptation.

On a side note, maybe someone can tell me what the practical application is for 1/3" thick. Not trying to be contentious, but I just don't see why people would want a knife (especially one that is shaped like this) that thick. Again, not saying there is no reason, just that I don't get it (is it just a collector thing?...which is fine, just not my thing)...someone want to help a brotha out?

As I have one, and have formed my own opinions on the 1/3 inch thickness, I can't really go into details per the test team agreement...
But I can drop annoying little hints, so here goes:

The regulator is absolutely not just a "collector thing" and I can find justification for just about every design decision they made

Different knives for different uses - though they can share many of the same tasks!

True. And the Reg has the decided advantage of eventually being available at factory pricing. Anyone looking for a big, thick piece of sharpened, diff-tempered SR101 will be hard pressed to find a better deal than that. Exactly Bruce! That's why I'll most likely get more than one.

I see what you are saying, as I'm sure the people at SR know more about functional knife design than I do . I guess what I am wondering however is, is the 1/3 thickness something that is sought out for functionality (and if so, what is that function?), or is it something that just happens to work well thanks to the overall execution of the Regulator? (Hope that makes sense)
