I am not a Zombie expert, but from what I can tell:
The ones that run die easier. So, they are more challenging in "one" since, but easier to dispose of. Bullets of normal human killing calibers seem to work sufficiently for the runners. (????). So, does a single good sword slice head removal or mid-section "chop-in-half". - Basically, whatever kills a normal human seems to kill the Zombie "runners". Meh...
But, the creepy slow moving ones don't die as easily. Shooting them with common caliber bullets, chopping off legs, arms and sometimes even their heads doesn't seem sufficient for stopping them. You really have to go CRAZY Ninja on them and "quickly" seperate them into the 6 major primary sections or shoot substantial mega-holes like "multiple" .50 cal, 12 gauge slugs, significant explosive like grenades or similar that can blow them into irrelevant "pieces".
If properly prepared and not over-whelmed by huge masses and numbers, the runners are probably more fun. Good practice and such.
But, the slow moving, creepy "Shambling" ones are just down right scary and a bit intimidating. You need to be on top of your game - especially if these creeps come in mass.
Honestly, while a good Katana or Waki would be good for de-animating zombies, I am a little learry about infection from Zombie blood or juices or air-born zombie dust or whatever they have. Does anyone know if Zombie particulate matter causes infection? Or Contagious or similar?
There seems to be "Some" sort of infectious type trend that keeps creating the "masses" of Zombies.
Not knowing enough yet about Zombie infection and being a bit on the concerned side about it, I tend to want to go the sniper route with "LOTS" of high power if possible.
If possible, I think I prefer a HIGHLY fortified and VERY HIGH provisioned fortress type location.
- like Burt Gummer:
I am not sure which caliber I would choose for proper sniper De-animation at "reasonable" ranges.
.50 BMG seems like over-kill and I am not looking for 1000+ yard shots.
I would think 30 - 300 yard sniper shoots would be sufficient for most Zombie issues - typical deer hunting ranges that I am familiar with. I don't want to have to mess with windage and such. But, typical .270, 7mm, 30-06, .308, .300 Win-Mag, etc. might not provide proper destruction of Zombie bodies (????) So, I guess I need to do more research on best caliber for Zombie sniping.
But, regardless of chosen distance caliber, I am certain I would want a good high-cap, semi-auto 12-gauge handy for "back-up".
I already have a Benelli M1 with 7+1 rounds. I am very confident in the M1's reliability and really can't think of a much better typical Home Defense weapon. But, for a good Zombie outbreak/envasion, I sort of wonder if something with higher capacity like a 20-32 round drum might be better. Maybe an AA12 or similar?
And for general fortress protection, I think a GE/Dylyn M134 is REQUIRED!!
And mount an "extra" M134 pop-up style in a heavy duty properly armored 4x4 vehicle suited and capable of running over Zombies. - Trips for supplies and groceries might be needed.
...... now I just need a way to pay for all these toys and ammo.
