That looks sweet.
While I like the thumb ramp on the S5, I gotta admit, the lines without it are really pleasing to the eye.
Nice work.
Really nice!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Really nice looking steel. I can see where the difference in your mods have made it a better knife for you. I still am on the fence about modding my S5CG since I ordered a LE version too.

Well.... being polished is better than rough. But, most of the knife really isn't polished. Just the edge and the spine is "Semi"-polished, but still satin.
The rest is still what I call satin finished with satin scratches.

But, being dry is WAY better than being wet - like during a lot of the sanding process when I had to dunk.

But, now being coated with a layer for Ren-Wax, it is VERY fine. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Seriously, "if unprotected by wax or oil", SR-101 will rust quite quickly if it is wet or damp.

Unprotected and "Dry" SR-101 inside a house with reasonable humidity control will be fine for a pretty long time. But, humidity and temp changes in the house can still create "some" condensation on a steel blade over time - even if you don't see actual sweat drops. So, over time, SR-101 can still patina. How long varies depending on conditions which can vary a lot.

But, keep it dry and IDEALLY keep it coated with wax or lube and SR-101 is fine.

I like Ren-Wax because it doesn't feel "greasy" once the wax dries. I don't really like oily and greasy knives.

With Ren-Wax, once the wax has dried and been buffed off, I can't really tell it has wax on it - except that if you put it on micarta, the micarta looks a little nicer, smoother, and such. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Bottom line: With bare SR-101 (regardless of level of polish), you need to keep it dry or keep it waxed or lubed - or deal with rust.

I love SR-101. INFI is tougher than SR-101. But, for my uses and most peoples HARD uses, SR-101 is PLENTY tough. But, INFI is WAY more corrosion resistant. And IMO, the main advantage of INFI over SR-101. - But, beware of the "DE-CARB" INFI, it will rust significantly FASTER than SR-101. - And the De-carb INFI is BUTT-UGLY IMO to boot. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> - But, that is just my opinion. Some seem to like it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Just send me your S5LE when you get it and I will send you my modified S5CG in return. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
