not for convexing but has anyone used a dremel to sharpen their knives?

NO! It has too fast RPM and will damage the temper.

Knife guy; thanks for the video links, those are great

I just acquired a Delta belt sander via craigslist the other day
I've got my 220, 320, 15 micron and leather belt ordered from lee valley
compound from Bark River
I've got on old camp axe and a few old beaters to get me started
Any tips from the pros?

Use a coarser grit for reprofiling the edge on axes and such. It cuts faster and cooler. I like 80 grit for that. You can always go to the finer grits later to polish that edge.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
