I typed all of this from my phone so forgive me if it's a horrible read...

So I got up at 6:00 this morning and decided to finally go for a walk through this little wooded area near my folks house. I'm not a much of a outdoors person and it has been 20 years since I have walked far enough into the trees to stop hearing the traffic. This new knife habit has been making me want to spend some time outside so I scoped out this one little area and went for it today.

It was actually pretty fun on the way in but it got pretty rough on the way out. It took maybe 45 minutes to get from the east side to west side of the little area. Nothing spectacular but I did get to chop some stuff up. I had my M9LE, X, and S5 with me. I was going to clip my S5 on my belt but I just left it in my maxped sitka with the X. I did most of my chopping and brush clearing with the M9. I actually picked a really nice clear route in with no poblems and when I got to the other side I decided to head south to check out a few clearings. I guess this is where I screwed up. I really didn't pay attention to how faw south I walked. I just kind of wondered around in the clearings wacking stuff with the M9. Before I entered this little area I walked north of the center maybe 100 or so yards until I saw a nice clear opening. The whole way in things were pretty clear and I steered away from tall grass. Well I didn't go back out that way. I walked northeast right into some tall grass and I figured it would clear up like what I came trough when I got into the trees. I was way wrong! Thorny vines hanging everywhere! I was so stupid that I just kept getting deeper and deeper in it. As I got frustrated I was just swinging the M9 and creating a pile of barbed wire that to I had to step over. And I do mean barbed wire! I swung my M9 and it snagged this thick vine and just flew out of my hand (I bought a lanyard and left it) and right under the thickest tangle of the barbed vines ever! It landed under the tangle and under a big tree branch so I had to really get in there to get it. So I grabbed my other knife out and start wacking away to get my M9. Well I created a nice pile of shackles at my feet so when I try to step forward I go down into a huge pile of thorny vines! My finger caught a gash and my forearms got scratched but luckily nothing big. I was ready to get out of there though. So I grab my M9 and push on. Wouldn't you know I was so far south that I came to a 8 foot high fence with barb wire at the top! My bright idea! North was looking rough south was the fence line and there was no way I was going back west. So I'll walk the fence! Bad idea! The brush had me pinned to the fence the whole time. I was doing spin moves and all kinds of crap. Oh and the reason I didn't go over? On the inside of this fence is a electric fence and probably some dogs! I had gone so far south that I reached the scrap yard!!! LOL!!! So I'm walking the fence and I walked right into a spot where the electric part ened. Well right at this point I was surround by brush so thick I was either going to have to go over the fence or turn around and spend 10 more minutes doing spin moves and hoping the dogs don't come knaw on my face. Did I mention that it had been raining last night and this morning? Did I mention that there was barbed wire at the top of the fence? I wear a size thirteen and had on rockport boots. I couldnt jam the tip of my toe in the fence for anything in the world! My foot would just slide right off of anything I could put it on. No way I was getting over 8 feet and barbed wire. So I just sat there disgusted for a few minutes before heading back. I mean there was a clearing right on the other side of he fence that lead to a street. Then it hit me! I was resting a piece of dead wood. I'm out of here!! Slippery wood so I cut knotches. On the first try the log broke and I went down in to the thorns again! There went my chance to get over. But I said "screw that" and used the first knotch which about 3 feet from the ground and the broken flat top of the log at about 4-5 feet to lauch my self up on the fence. I could feel the wood crumble under my feet so I knew this the last chance I had. I made it to the top and he log cracked in half leaving my foot dangling. I was up now so how do I get down. "If I..." THUMP!!! Yup... I went for it and went down! Hit on my back like a sack of mashed potatos! Popped right up and was on my way. I walked through the open field hit the tracks and about 15 minutes later it started to sprinkle and about 5 minutes later I was in my car!

Sound like fun right? It was... Something I really needed to. Proud of myself for taking those licks and still bouncing. I even learned a few things. Good lite romp...

But the part that's making me hate myself and feeling so sick is... Well I got home showered up and went right to sleep. When I woke up I went to my pack to grab a snicker.

Where's my Scrapper 5?!?!??!!!?!!!?!!!!

It just hurts me to even say it but I think I lost my Scrapper 5!!!

Well, this gives you an excuse to get out there, practice and maybe find your S5. If you get out there and look and learn it would be a relatively cheap lesson. Perhaps it could turn to something fun. Hopefully you find it your 2nd or third time out.

You are just going to have to go back and retrace your steps.... It either came out of the bag when you went down (one of those times), or when you grabbed out your second knife.... YOU CAN DO THIS....

My crew and I were chopping line through a crotch deep swamp of muck and mire and in the middle of a rest / water break ... after a bit we got into a cat tail fight (throwing cat tails at each other through the weeds for a few minutes) .... and one of my men lost his glasses in the swamp ducking a cat tail.... we could not find them and it was getting late and it was about 2 miles back to the truck...we had to get out of the swamp before it got to dark...the gators play about that time...we just happened to get a chance to go back about a month later... I walked out into the muck and mire and knowing the general area he lost them, and after looking around for about 15 minutes... I spotted the ear piece sticking out of some floating weeds....and found those glasses....

moral is.... go back and look....you can find your knife..it is a mission...

but check your car, pack, and clothing real well first

Good Luck

Finding the S5 is high priority I was just scoping things out to see if it would be a good area to get some time outdoors without having to make a huge trip out of it. Looks like I have plenty of reason to go back now.

Unfortunately the S5 probably did come out in one of the areas that sucked the most.

Hmm... I just now noticed a thorn jammed into the side of my thumb...

That's Murphy's Law... well one of the corollaries...

It will be in the last place you look.... everything always is....

UNLESS you are one of those people that keeps looking after you find something you lost or misplaced... just to say it WASN'T in the last place you looked....like I am apt to do......

Jeeze.

Get back in there and find that blade! It's like a little treasure waiting for someone to find it!

Enjoy every sandwich.

Ouch. At least you got an adventure out of it.
I agree, get back out there and find your S5.

Where is this area? I got a Waki, can travel, and maybe get something out of it--I know the feeling. Sorry for the loss, but head back out an reconquer the land and find the S5.

hmm. yeah, go back. hopefully that terrain is enough of a deterrent to everyone else that your knife will be safe until you find it.

Ouch! That sucks. I am always fearfull of dropping my knife. When I go out I only carry one big knife and I feel for constantly. I consider it a sensitive item. In the Army we did sensitive item checks all the freaking time. I agree with the others here, keep looking. The s5 is way too sweet to just forget about. What I fear even worse is being fishing in the boat and dropping my blade in the murky depths. I wish I could help but all I can do is offer encouragement.

Good Luck!
