My dad and I picked up 2 Sea Eagle 2 person inflatable "explorer" kayaks and they should be here by the end of the week. Been looking at taking the kids out on some lakes up in the hills. No whitewater stuff, just point a to point b for now. There are a couple of lakes with islands that I have wanted to camp/hike on but never could. Picking up PFD's for everyone this week as well.

Since we don't have a trailer and did not want to go down that road, we opted for the inflatables. Their explorer line is the tougher of their 2 lines but I never having been on a freshwater kayak so it will be interesting.

Anyone do any recreational kayaking?

I have been in various kayaks, but have never purchased an inflatable.

My favorite type is the Sit-On-Top type because of the flexibility they give me for my purposes - kayak-camping, kayak-fishing, and playing in the gulf. I have some money tied up in several made by Ocean Kayak, but my "investment" pales in comparison to what some spend.

You and your family will have a great time.

I've been in alot and currently own just two. Both SOTs, a Wilderness Systems and a Malibu. They are alot of fun.

The wife and I go often but I use mine primarily for fishing in the far reaches of Corpus Christi Bay. Mine is a Native Watercraft 14.5 ft. A lot of the guys use sit on top kayaks off the beach to run bait out in the surf. I enjoy mine...there's something about the solitude I get when I'm out in it.

Very cool. Looks like a very solid setup. I am excited about getting out another excuse to get up in to the mountains in the summer and in the the local lakes in the winter.

After I thought about it last night I realized what you were talking about <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" /> I've see the Hobies and they are nice as well. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I can't wait until the temps go lower. The water temp today was 86 degrees...and that was 50 NM out and the bay is about the same.
