I was so happy to find a deal I could manage on a regular old CG Dog Father, the blade that made Scrap Yard. I wasn't around when the company released it the first time, so I missed all that. But finally, it is MINE!!! I got it used off another forum. It looked great, aside from a small ding about two thirds of the way up the blade. God knows what did that. I tried to sharpen it up on my Sharpmaker and completely failed. It would just barely slice paper. Oh well. I just had to take it out anyway, so I strapped it on my pack and headed out into the Desoto National Forest to find the DF something to eat
I wanted to go to a white sandbar I know about and make some lunch. Its only a few miles from the trailhead. We get trees down around here in the smallest blows, so it was no real surprise when I ran across this. The Rangers and rec techs hadn't cleared the trail since the storm earlier that week.

My DF cried out over my right shoulder, "That looks delicious! I must try some!" What could I do but oblige? At first I thought I'd just limb it to make passage easier.

Then I thought I would just make a meal for my DF of this offending pine.

The tree never had a chance. The Dog Father wasn't even sharp and it went through an 8in pine tree like it was nothing. Granted, Pine is pretty weak, but it was a decent sized tree. After that I ran across a large Hickory tree that had fallen with its upper most branches across the trail. I limbed my way through 8 or 9 thick branches of 3 and 4 inches before coming out the other side. That was a cake walk too. Next up was . . .
