is $200 a fair price to pay for a new ddf?

It seems that's pretty typical for what they've sold for on the second hand market, but it's a significant markup. It's up to you whether you think it's worth the markup - to me personally, very few blades are worth their second hand prices, but I don't set the prices. The market does. And the market seems to have spoken on the DDF because several have sold for around that price.

I have seen them go for 230. Even 200 is a considerable markup but pretty standard for the secondary market. sometimes you can find a DF and sheath at that price.

I'm no fan of "flippers", but the base price for CG Dog Fathers (including the Desert DF) is $139.95; figure at least $10 for tax or shipping (depending on where they bought it, online or at a show). If they only bought one online, shipping was more. Also, there's insured shipping from the seller to you, figure $12, maybe $15, making the total cost for an original purchaser selling one to you about $165. It's up to you to determine if $35 is too much markup.

I wouldn't buy it, but I live very close to Knob Creek, so Busse comes to town twice a year. If I had to travel to Atlanta for Blade, that would add a LOT to my costs -- I'd probably consider it a bargain under those circumstances.

A fair price is whatever somebody is willing to pay for one!

All depends on supply and demand - at any given point in time - and that changes. What something sells for one month could differ the next month - if the number of similar items or the number of buyers in the market changes.

DF's are in limited supply, and the demand is strong. A few DDFs have come on the market from a recent Ganza. I've seen prices range from $200-$275. When those are gone, the supply will be tighter again.

DF's are awesome knives and not many people seem to want to let go of them. You'll have to pry mine from my dead rotting corpse... unless I manage to score a DFLE! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

It's only to much if you think you got took. If YOU'RE satisfied with what you paid, that's all that matters. My wife bought me a knife once I would not have paid over $100.00 for. She paid $165.00. she didn't think it was to much because she wanted to get it for me.

If I could get $250 for mine, I would be mighty tempted to let it go. Mine is lightly used, though <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" />

Well, mine DOES include my awesome DIY kydex sheath. That's gotta be worth at least 6, 7 dollars.
