Who likes the idea?
I've been thinking of how great it would be to see some INFI with Res-C on it again (especially on the KZ), but last time the subject was brought up it was met with more opposition than approval.
That being the case, if I want an ultimate chopper with Resiprene-C, it's probably going to have to come from the Yard.

Sooo, if the Scrapyard is going to come up with something to put all other choppers to shame, what would we prefer the specs to be?

I'd like a full 3/8" (.375") thick blade and 12" long.
(I know what you're thinking, that sounds awfully familiar, and yes I really really want that Killa Zilla with Res-C, but chances are it ain't gonna happen <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />)

Also, what do you guys think about Mudder handles on a large chopper?
They sure look cool, and wouldn't be any less shock absorbing. The only problem would be if they cause too much friction.

12" long, 5/16" thick, regular handle.

I'm not voting in the poll, because there's no thin option. All these crazy thick knives are overkill - give me a thin dogfather in a 12" length and it will chop circles around the current dogfather, while not wearing you out like some of these crazy thick options.

The thread question is "Do we want one?", and I vote no. The Dogfather is already an excellent chopping tool, to the extent that it can replace (and surpass) a light hatchet. Making it longer and heavier will reduce its excellent all around utility, and turn it into an awkward specialist bar. If you need more chopping power than a DF can provide, you don't want a bigger knife, you want an Estwing or other light-weight axe. If you want to make a decent super long knife, make it thinner as well, and add some weight to the butt so that it doesn't turn into a baseball bat. But now you're making a machete, not a "XXL Dog Father".

I agree with most of the others....I like the DF as it is and I don't really have any use for a longer/thicker DF. That would really make it a uni-tasker (chopping). It would be interesting to see how mudders work on a knife that large but I'm not sure they would work...maybe some over-sized mudders? Your options don't quite work. Discussed elsewhere, the consensus seems to be the desire for longer and thinner. My preferences has been for 12" x 7/32 (.22) and 14-16" x 3/16 (.19) convexed. SR77 would be fine to keep the costs down.
