Did you know that the steel used in Beckers and Carbon V are one and the same? Interesting! Where did you find this out H-D? There was a guy on the Camillus forum who actually formulated the heat treating for the steel. Sadly, the steel is no longer being made. Camillus made the Carbon V blades for CS, and the 0170-6C Beckers. Those steels are the same. It's really too bad about Camillus. The ripples will be felt throughout the industry for awhile I suspect.

cs recon scout is ~1" longer and a bit thicker than Scrapper 6 ?
how do the two feel/compare for you? I can tell you the handle is very comfortable but if you beat the handle the kraton will start to break up a little, the edge of the blade is very nice. my scouts have really abused it. no problems.

Who is no longer making the carbon V? Cold Steel or Camillus? Very interesting HD! Cold Steel does not make knives. They contract them out. Now, there will be no US-made CS knives. Camillus made all the Carbon V knives, or at least the blades. CS's new replacement steel is called SK-5. It is a Japanese version of 1080.

Here's a "what if" for the Dogs. In the unlikely event that you're not able to score a Mutt tonight and the money you set aside for it ($69.95 + $14.95 S/H = $84.90) is burning a hole in your pocket, what other knife would you buy instead? The rules are as follows:
1) You can only buy ONE knife. Your choice of design.
2) You have 24 hours to purchase the knife (no layaways, pre-orders or down payments).
3) You cannot spend more than $84.90 including S/H and sales tax (if applicable). Sorry I got hear a little late, Thins is a tough one, but a Ontairo RAT 3, Becker Necker, or a Spyderco folder(not sure wixh one) Of courase none are in the same feild as the Dumpster Mutt, but on my wish list.

Yep. I like the TAK-1 in 1095 too. But as you say, nothing compares to a Mutt! Best bang for the buck 5" blade . . . EVER! Right, Gravelface? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> You darn right...BEST BANG !!!!!
