Well, I got some bad (and expensive) news today...

I took my 12 year old cat, Calvin, to the vet to have his teeth cleaned and a small lump under his chin checked out. I thought, at worse, he would have a bad tooth and an abscess. They called me and told me that the infection/or cancer had moved into his jaw, causing a fracture and told me that they would have to remove a small portion of his jaw along with 3-4 teeth. I felt horrible when I heard this. I just want whats best for the cat and the vet said that this would be best and that the cat would get along just fine. Still, it sucks and was hard to hear. Please keep your fingers crossed for Calvin to make a full recovery. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I can feel for you. I get VERY attached to my pets and have unfortunately had to deal with quite a few surgeries and putting some pets down. It has never gotten any easier for me.

I personally like dogs and cats both quite a bit and have had both.

Currently, I have two dogs. But, one of my best pets of all time was a cat that was a VERY good buddy.

In some cases, surgery has seemed to work and resulted in more happy years. One time not so well. Unfortunatley, there have been a few times where surgery was suggested, but I really had to grill my vet to determine if it was a viable option or not. And a few times I had to skip as surgery just didn't seem a realistic option.
