Thanks guys. Rainwalker and others make this look waaay easier than it is. My hat is off to them. Their quality (and service )is second to none.
I've just got bird dog on the brain.
May I ask what method you used to construct the welt?
I'm no expert.
I cut out the front piece and rear spacer (both shaped to the BD handle), then the rear/belt loop piece, and then the strap.
As for the welt, I just traced the shape of the blade onto the leather and cut it out leaving a substantial amount for the welt itself (outside the blade profile) for a fudge factor. The welt is one continuous piece. I glued it to the front and then marked and drilled the stitch holes.
Then, I glued the rear spacer on and then the top half of the belt loop/rear piece and drilled out the existing holes. I glued, drilled and stitched the strap on and then glued the rest of the rear/belt loop piece to the sheath and re drilled the holes through that piece. Then I stitched it. I stained all pieces before handling them too much as I didn't want anything like oil or epoxy or glue to get on them and make spots where the stain didn't absorb.
The entire sheath is only 5 pieces: strap, front, welt, rear spacer, and rear/belt loop.
