Looking to get my second SY knife (1st was a Dogfather) and would like to know what a good all around knife is for someone still new to SY knives.
I don't have the Dogfather anymore but I do have a RTAK II so my big knife is covered. Like wise, I have a Falkniven F1 so my small fixed blade is taken care of. I was thinking a 5"-7" blade would be about right for me since I don't have anything like that.
What do you think of the Scrapyard Yard Guard as an all around knife? I would use it when hiking or camping so I would leave my big and little fixed blades behind when I took it. What else would fill that role as a do it all knife that can chop wood for a fire and clear some brush. It would also be used for normal knife duties so it should be too big, thick or heavy. Is the Yard Guard really thick and heavy?

I think the Scrapper 5 would be a great all round knife in the 5" - 7" size or just a little bigger is the SOD. Both are great knives and would be great for hiking or camping.

I would say an S5CG it's 5 inches of allaround usefulness!

I would say one of the following:
Scrapper 5 Scrapper 5LE Scrapper 6 Son of Dogfather Yard Guard or Yard Hook
Any of those would be good choices for a SY knife. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Good luck!

The RTAK II is a mighty impressive knife. IMO, you should have hung on to the DF. The SOD would be the ideal mid-range knife between your RTAK and F1.

Welcome to the Yard, speedsix. As others have said, the Scrapper 5 is a great all-around knife. There should be a few of those floating around the sale forums.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I sold it for $80 IIRC so I feel even more stupid. I will have to check out the Scrapper and others. Thanks.

Good Luck speedsix and if you have any questions on how to get them check out the top thread; "READ THIS! Rules & SY Info"
lotsa good info in there, and you can also private Mods "Private Klink" or "Coldone".

I vote Scrapper 6 or Scrapper 5. I think the YG/YH might be a little larger than you need considering you already have a chopper.
