I saw nothing about the comparo tests there Bruce. I think he was just insinuating that if you want a knife that's so different from the S5, you might as well buy a chunk of steel and make a knife from scratch.
So quick to jump to conclusions, dude....

the s5 comes with a decent edge for a busse, but still to thick in my opinion. I think the only thing that needs to be done is thinning down the edge and working on the edge geometry.

I think I agree with all who have posted that the S5 does not need a full flat grind. The bevel is certainly tall enough that it really does not need this sort of modification. The only issue I have with it is the fact that I do not like saber grinds as much as full flat or full convexed. Usually it is a functional preference but it is also an aesthetic preference.
I did thin out the edge a bit and it was pretty easy even with my lack of a belt sander etc. My guess is if I try to do a full flat reprofile I would end up butchering the finish, which would suck. The knife does a noticeable better job at everything with the edge thinned out. I think the knife is plenty thick enough that reprofiling it would not violate system integrity.
For the thumb ramp, I like having it but I am becoming tempted to add some jimping to make it more functional. Part of the reason I sold my single remaining Busse Combat and purchased this bit of much less expensive INFI was to have some fun with it. The Busse never even got tried out because I had, what I feel, too much money wrapped up in it and I could not make myself 'drive it off the lot.'
Thank you for all the replies. I will keep the suggestions in mind.

I like the S5 as it is. I don't even think of thinning the edge as a modification, just proper sharpening.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I've seen the mods that Ban does. Rounds the spine, and convexes. It looks awesome and I hear that his convexing is great. I have a S5 LE and I am tempted to send it to Ban for his magic. However, it works great as it is.

convexing it might be a cool idea...something you might not want to completely rule out either.
or you can thin it out AND convex it which would be cool too, and on top of that mirror polish that sucker.
itd be beautiful!

I honestly like the way it is but a convex edge never hurts <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
