Ok so I decided to do a little comparison between on e of my CG S5’s and my S5LE. Both of these are fresh back from Horn Dog with insane edges. Neither had been used since coming back from Vic.
Now mind you, this is just something I did in my kitchen and garage. I will get them out to the woods soon to do a more thorough test.

First up was foods prep. Went out to the garden and grabbed one of the last tomatoes and cukes I’m probably going to get. Both sliced well for what they are. I’ve used my BDLE and it slices noticeably better, bit in camp…these knives would still get the job done. I honestly noticed no difference in the performance.

Next up was some batoning. These pieces were from an Apple Tree branch that I cut down about 3 weeks ago, so still very green.

The CG went through it with ease, even overcoming a very small knot in the wood.

Likewise, the LE went through it very easily. I did not notice any difference in the effort exerted between the two knives.

Next up…I cut through a few pieces of jute. No noticeable difference in effort between the two knives. They both went through with almost no effort. I’d like to try it again with some heavier rope, but like I said…I just did this on the fly.

Next up, I did a little chopping. I did 10 whacks with each knife.

Again, both performances were almost identical. It would have taken me probably 40 or 50 whacks and it certainly isn’t a Dogfather, but if I had to…I could chop through a smaller sized branch for shelter building etc.
Both knives were still shaving sharp at the end of these tests. I noticed almost no loss of sharpness from either knife.

In conclusion, I didn’t notice superior performance from the Infi. Of course, one of the supposed benefits is corrosion resistance. I’ve seen my SR101 blades rust rather quickly…so this is a factor. Is it a $100.00 benefit I don’t know.
I don’t know if I’ll ever plunk down the cash for a Busse piece of Infi in Satin, so I’m very glad Dan gave us the opportunity to get a hold of some at what is still a reasonable price.
The S5CG for under $100.00 is a hell of a deal. I find this knife to be perfect for 90% of the tasks I need done with a knife. With a DF, S5 (either CG or LE) and BDLE any chore can be accomplished in my book.
Much respect to Dan for giving us this gem of a knife. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I don’t see myself ever selling one of my S5’s.
