Have been reading some of Horace Kepharts stuff and he has me wanting a good bushcraft axe. Have been looking at Gransfors from Lee Valley, but am looking for recommendations. Have been considering the Forest axe or the Hunters axe.

Thanks
Doc

Both of those are good. For something in between, try Wetterlings. Made in Sweden, cheaper than Gransfors, and considered to be comparable.

I have held the GB and was really impressed. I hear a lot of good things about Wetterlings too. IIRC, Wetterlings is now ownedby GB, or vice versa.

Really? Hmmm...hadn't heard that. Should have similar quality standards then.

Considering the Wetterlings cost about half of what the GB cost, is there that much difference? Anything that an aspiring bushcrafter would notice?

I like the Gransfors Bruk small forest axe, but the wetterlings are VERY comparable and a lot cheaper.

I went through the same issue a few months back. I wanted the Gransfors, but couldn't justify the price, especially since I wanted to keep as much money available as I could for the next Scrapyard release (which was the Scrapper 5 CG). So I bought the Wetterlings. Nice axe, still want a Gransfors. I will get a GB sooner or later, but the reality is that they are both very good, and they do the same thing... chop up wood.
