I’m glad your damage could be repaired, Mpalmer.
Guards are good. Despite the convictions of the bushcraft types. Even if the guard adds weight. Even if it gets in the way when you’re making a birch bark cup.
It only takes one slide onto the cutting edge to teach you that Mr. Guard is your friend.

Man, I'm glad you're okay!! my sensei told me a similar story about way back when,he started training in Iaido, he drew the sword and sliced clean through to the bone in his left hand. Lots of neurosurgey. Good thing is that the wedding band helped and you still have use of the right hand. Gotta keep those nurses at bay! lol
