Been looking around and the only difference I can see between LE's and regulars are the satin finish. Well, some are flat ground also. What makes them so appealing?
I know for me, I'd rather have a coating the helps protect agains rust.

Usually the LE's will have serial numbers that increase the appeal to collectors. I think sometimes the regular "combat grade" knives can be re-released later on, but once the LE run's are finished there is a good chance they will never be offered again. All part of the collectability game.

I can understand the serial # part. makes sense. I guess I'll just stick with the combat grade stuff. Works for me.
Although I gotta admit... I saw a SoD, flat ground, satin finish on BF. OOOHHHH!!! Nice!!!
Must put down the mouse. Need to get ready for work.. No seriously. I must put down the mouse.. Sometimes I hate it when I don't listen to myself.

Not all satin knives are LE's, and not all LE knives are satin... at least a few Busse LE's have been coated, although I haven't seen any new releases of coated LE blades in the short time I've been around.

Satin can be easier to clean, and some prefer uncoated blades for working with food. I personally like satin OR coated - doesn't really matter to me. Satin usually costs a fair bit more, so I end up going with coated because I'm a cheapskate. For example, I REALLY REALLY liked the design of the SAR8 that was released by Busse recently, but the satin and DC versions cost too much for me, so I didn't get one, since they decided not to offer one of their absolute best camp knife designs in a coated finish

I know for me, I'd rather have a coating the helps protect agains rust.

I think many (myself included) find the look of the satin finish more aesthetically pleasing. Also, through use the coatings will begin to wear off which some feel diminish the way a blade looks, not to mention that when the coating wears off the rust protection may suffer. My understanding is that after hard use the satin is relatively easy to restore to its former glory, while the same cannot be said for the coated blades.

All that said, I like the fact that the coated blades cost less. Money no object however, I like the satin look. I'm still just a newbie, so I'm sure some of the more knowledgable Dogs will be able to offer many more comparisons between the two.

I think you mean that the overall price of an LE is about 140% compared to the price of a CG, not that an LE costs 140% MORE than a CG!

So glad you cleared that up. Just so everyone knows, I did not mean to repeat the word 'about' either.
