Grats on getting you DF Ug!
Dual wielding DF LEs would be awesome!
I'd recommend a dual crossdraw sheath rig for that

Ugug, as you already know by now, the DF is a great knife. I am getiing a DFLE, too.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

hey guys
well i spent a couple of hours doing test cuting on soaked straw targets .... i have to say i am very impressed with the chopping ability of the DF... it's not so much of a slicer but would easily chop off a zombies arm if necessary .. you would expect teh thickness of the blade to cause drag but the angle of blade to handle means an extra leverage advantage that negates the need for more force to take it through the target ..
i intially thought the handle was too samll for my hands.. but after three or four cuts it suddenyly felt good.. eight out of ten and the res c prevents any resonant return shock when the blade unexpecteldy hits something hard, which it did since the straw targets were mounted on broom handles
modifications: ok here i am going to be a bt controversial.. i set up a rubber inner tire filled with the straw that i had choped up earlier and with wood splinters... i use this for penetration testing.. the DF passed and would go through most zombie armour but .. but .. it cries out to have Randall style penetrator sharpened swedge...
i also used the tip to carve a round notch in a piece of round dowel.. similar to the notch one would create if using a primative fire lighting method (bow drill etc) ... the Df managed to do this but the one thing i reckon is that the choil should be slightly more rounded.. that would give more control when using the tip for fine work, but since that is not really the forte of any large blade this is a very minor point
my overall conclusion is that this is a great blade ..it is better than large blades costing more than twice the price .. with the penetrator swedge this would probably be the only large blade i ever need .... either way... given the hT protocols, steel, design and handle material used i think this should be a mandatory purchase for everyone who needs a large blade
roll on teh LE.... thanks again to team SYK.. you rule
cheers

Great review Ug, thanks. I agree that a penetrator tip would make a perfect blade perfecter

Lets see some pix!
I can't wait to get my hands on the DFLE - probably just one though! I want another CG as well.
I thought the handle was too small at first too, but after some extensive chopping, I think its just right!
The DF is my favorite knife, hands down, that I've ever had. I'm sure your mods will be cool, but after doing some batoning w/ this knife, I think that the wide flat spine near the tip is crucial for splitting wood.
Nice review! -Dan

hey guys
thanks for the comments (and for not pointing out my feeble spelling ) .. no pix alas .. but will hopefully get some pix of next weeks bamboo, sand and pebbles insanity..
on the batoning issue.. yep ... i am torn .. but the primary purpose of all my knives is to ease the passage of zombies into a state of peace ..maybe the nswer is two standard DF's .. one with penetrator for zombies, one for petrified wood
either way it is a great knife.. cheers
