It is sad that for the price of a Busse Combat knife that the sharpness and fit and finish wouldn't be top notch. I too have gotten dull knives as well as improperly fitted handles on knives I paid more then customs for.

Very informative review MM!

Looks like the Regulator held it's own against the others.

Just wanted to point out that VoxHog posted in another thread that his Killa Zilla was very sharp from the factory, and it thoroughly outchopped some very beefy knives. Just goes to show you the difference a quality edge can make.

Great review and comparison, MM. Yesterday I cut up one of my dead Bay trees with the chain saw and split all the wood for an upcoming oyster roast fire. I put the megabucks Killa Zilla up against my 25 year old Gerber camp axe spitting wood. The Gerber won. As a chopper the KZ does very well with its reprofiled convex edge. The original edge was so dull, I ended up grinding of the "Test Team" logo just thinning it out. Had a pile of INFI dust before I got that beast sharp enough to compete with any of my HI Khuks. The KZ chops fine now, but this thing us just too darned heavy for me.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

If I had your skill at reprofiling and sharpening knives, HD, I might keep the zilla. Might just have to snag an HI or three, though - they are an awesome value and some beefy knives.

Other than a very obtuse factory edge, I really cannot fault the KZ. I had to reprofile my HI Khukris, too. As Khuks go, the KZ is probably the toughest one of the lot. My best 12" blade chopper is not a khukri anyway. It's my convexed Ontario camp machete. I am beginning to think that this whole heavy thick knife craze has finally reached its absurd zenith. Why would I want to carry a 38 oz knife when a one pounder can do as well or better? The KZ is not as much a knife as it is an AXE! Batons? We don't need no stinking batons! Just swing that big KZ like an axe and the wood will split. One hard blow and crack!

The KZ is great for making big pieces of wood into little pieces. And it is an impressive chopper.

But so is my Ontario.

I did a lot of splitting comparisons, and I would just as soon use the lighter Gerber Camp Axe.

As for batoning, don't let anyone tell you that you can't split wood with a thin bladed machete.

Sorry for the slight hijack to your superb comparison, MM, but this way folks can see it all in one thread. Now you know why I sold my FFBM and FBM. THe KZ is next. Can't wait to get that Bushwacker. That's a knife!

Thanks, MM. I am not likely to change anyone's mind about thick heavy blades. They work fine as axes. If others like them, that is fine with me. The DFLE and M9 are as heavy as I want a knife. But when a modified $20 machete will do about as well as the KZ, I have to wonder. I can buy a stack of $20 machetes for less should I break one.
But with an INFI machete (excuse me, Bushwacker), I'll have the best of both worlds.

Good to see that some of these get used.
