I wish you luck Direwolf. It looks like you have some other opportunities so there's something positive.
Christmas layoffs really stink. Public companies often seem motivated to implement layoffs in December to take the expense hit on their books in the current year and start the new year leaner and meaner. The timing couldn't be worse for most folks though.

Sorry to hear that, Direwolf. Sorry to hear about that, I heard about a company here going to do a bunch of layoffs before the 24th. That must be really hard, especially around the holidays.
You will be in my prayers, say one for me too, I have a deal on the edge and it really needs to go through. I went to a Christmas Eve party and told this story: “I’ve been chasing a tenant who was late with his rent. I finally caught him today. He told me to give him formal notice to pay or move. He could use this paper to get some emergency funds, and would be able to pay his rent that way. So I made out the Three Day Notice to Pay Rent or Vacate, and gave it to him. On the day before Christmas. “Now I’ll have those [censored] ghosts keeping me up all night.”

Well that is sad but true, our office does some property management. Sometimes you have to ask someone to leave. Some of the rent that is due is being used to feed someone in retirement so its a two edged sword.
I just hope I am not in either postion ever.

Prayers sent for you. I know a lot of people are facing a tough time right now but the thing to remember is that family comes first. Hang in there.

That's one of the reasons I have been trying to cut back on purchases a bit. I got down to about $50 before I found another job when I lived in San Diego, and resolved to always maintain an emergency buffer since then. I started dipping into my buffer and need to rebuild it.
I've only been fired once (with the words, "Your job isn't to think, it's to do what you're told!"), and while it was emotionally devastating, it also motivated me to go to college, which led to a far more rewarding and much better paying job. I'd advise considering whether you're satisfied with what you're doing and where you're doing it, and if you're not, look for options to change. If you make the right choices, you might look back on being laid off and think that it was one of the best things that could have happened to you.
