Saw this while browsing the web today. Looks like a pretty darn cool plinker. What do you guys think about it?

Looks like a fun plinker. Check out the Ruger SR-22. It's based off of the excellent 10/22 action but has the ergos of an AR. I also like the fact that it takes the reliable rotary magazine or most after-market magazines for the 10/22.

I have the big brother (M&P 15) and was also seriously considering the 22. However, at around $500 it takes a lot longer to get payback than if you got a Ciener adapter. I simply don't shoot the AR enough to justify the additional outlay. Would rather use the money for another Scrap Yard purchase....

I would feel the same way but I don't own an AR at this point. I have been shooting 308 and its EXPENSIVE right now. looking for cheaper gun fun.

S&W M&P 15/22 reviews have been pretty positive. Looks like the best of the bunch so definitely worth getting if you are after an AR plinker.

Thats what I have seen. Its a real shame that Colt outsourced theirs to Umarex instead of making their own. Its basically an Airsoft gun that fires .22LR. That does not make me really confident in buying one.

I've heard some negatives...not a real AR upper or lower[not compatible]..little too much of an airsoft look or feel and some whining about plastics. Some recommend getting a dedicated .22LR upper to mate w/AR lower.

I just picked up a CMMG conversion unit on sale, <$200 w/two 26 rd mags..hope to shoot it tomorrow.

Having spread all that rain most folks I've heard from that have the Smith seem to like it, YMMV.

My dad purchased the Colt M4 .22 a month or two ago. A coworker of his had one and really liked it, so my dad bought one. Ultimately, I'm sure my dad would love to have a real AR, but they cost a lot more and .22 ammo is much cheaper. I shot my dad's Colt, and it seems just fine to me. I've heard criticism of both the Colt and S&W rifles. One of the pluses of the Colt is that it is actually made of metal, so it feels more solid than plastic. I'm not a fan of the outsourcing by Colt, but the gun seems fine to me. I don't quite get the "it's an airsoft gun that shoots .22's" comments, but being made of metal seems to pull away from airsoft more than plastic does. Just my opinion.
