So I was wondering, I always see people talk about what gear they would carry if society collapsed, but what would you do? Would you strike out into the woods by yourself or take people with you? Would you scavenge off the remnants of supplies left behind or try to be self sufficent. Would you try to preserve the principles of the old or allow them to be forgotten? I was rereading Earth Abides and it always makes me think about this stuff.

I would definately avoid urban areas.
Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms should be a convenience store, not a Government Agency.

I'd go the Warlord route and arm the entire neighborhood. We'd take over as much territory as possible and I'd get all the hot chicks. OK, skipping the hot chicks, I think that is the best chance of survival, esp. if you can find people with diverse skills and knowledge.

Isn't that the point of being a warlord? For the hot chicks I mean

It's good to be the King - or Warlord! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I'd take my family and some extended family members with me. I have a secluded spot picked out that has plenty of water, game animals, edible roots and tubers and natural cover. It's tough to get too, but when you get there, you can see anyone coming for a couple of miles. It's probably enough to support about 20 people or more for a while. We have young children so, moving fast is not as easy. We can set up and pick-off those who would try attack us.
In our group we have a couple doctors, a dental hygienist, a mechanic and some good hunters.
I hope it never happens. But, if it does, we have a plan.

Being outdoors all winter would get old, but if I stayed in the urban areas i would have to make sure to be well armed against the power hungry warlords with something to prove <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Out to the wilderness for me and my GF! Well armed and well equipped for any environment around where I am. I can have the truck packed with all that is needed to defend and survive in about 15 min.
